So, I spent the last two hours writing a post and then trashed it because that’s what it was. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
I’ll consequently just say happy birthday, America, and please consider your pets when you’re lighting those fireworks tonight.
You know, I’ve had the same thing happen to me. The posts I hardly give a thought to and just throw out there seem to always do well. Not that my others don’t, but it is puzzling.
I hate the feeling though when you try to write something and nothing comes. Very frustrating.

What’s freaky is this one was like two sentences. Why do I bother writing thousand-word essays if this is all it takes? If only I could always manage to say what I want to say in two sentences 😉

You know, there is something to be said of short stories and posts – I think twice as much thinking goes in them, because you have to say everything you mean in fewer words – so people can read it, get the message and still have something to think about later – leave them wanting to read more.

True. I also often don’t click on a post if I see it says 1 000+ more words, especially if I’m pressed for time.

I think a lot of people are that way, myself included. I like to keep my posts a around six hundred words or less, give or take.

I think that’s a good length. Long enough to meaningfully engage the reader, short enough to finish in five minutes, ten if you read slow.

My thoughts exactly.

Seems to have worked out.

Yes. I’m a bit astounded at the number of like this non-post has received, and from people who don’t even follow me.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Some things I’ve only posted because I needed a post that day, but some of those “bad” posts ended up being popular.
And don’t worry. I’ll give the dog a chance to light a couple of fireworks too.

True, but this one needs serious work before it can be inflicted on the public. I’ll retry it next week when I’m home.
Tell your dog to have a blast.
