Song Title Challenge #62: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again from The Rocky Horror Show

It’s time for this week’s Song Title Challenge.

Write a short piece of fiction, around 300 words, using the song title as your story title but don’t listen to the song.  You can pick your own genre or use the one suggested to me.  Remember to link back to this post so I can find yours.

If you would like to suggest a song title for a future post, you can do so from the challenge page.  You can also leave a suggestion on the Facebook page.

I just knew bumblepuppies would ignore my assertion that I’m not writing any more children’s books and he didn’t disappoint (you’re becoming predictable, sir). But I’m getting my own back. In honour of the new Doctor I’ve officially declared this week official Doctor Who week on if all else fails... so make yourselves ready for a Doctor Who children’s story, using a song from The Rocky Horror Show. bumblepuppies should have known better than to give me Let’s Do The Time Warp Again.

Let’s Do The Time Warp Again

Sally Sparrow was playing in her yard, when out of the sky fell a big blue box. Out stumbled a man in a bow-tie and fez, who said, “Hey! This isn’t the Taj Mahal.”

“I’m Sally Sparrow,” said Sally. “Who are you?”

“I’m the Doctor,” replied the strange man. “How do you do?”

“Do you live in that box? It looks somewhat cramped.”

“Oh, I get by,” he said. “Do you want to see?” He gestured with his hand, smiling with glee.

Sally knew better than to get into boxes with strange men. But she was curious, and risked a quick peek. “It’s bigger on the inside,” Sally Sparrow squeaked.

“Welcome to the TARDIS,” and he flicked a big switch. There were pops and bangs and pings, and the floor began to pitch.

“What’s going on?” said Sally in distress.

“It’s the time warp,” said the Doctor.

Something went ding, and the shaking grew still.

“What’s the time warp?” said Sally.

“It’s better I show you.” The Doctor opened the door. He and Sally stepped out on a smooth marble floor. “Greece I imagine, or possibly Rome. Or perhaps neither,” he mused, as they were approached by a gnome.

“My lord and my lady.” The gnome bowed with a flourish. “You’re just in time for dinner. I hope you like porridge.”

They had their meal in a magnificent hall, then was escorted to a fairy ball. Sally had on a beautiful gown. The Doctor switched his fez for a crown.

Back in the TARDIS, Sally was ecstatic. “Let’s do the time warp again,” she shouted.

There was a whiz and a zing and another loud ding, and Sally woke up on her lawn at home. Of the Doctor and his box, there was not a sign. What a strange dream, thought sally, and brushed some dirt from her gown.

Naturally I’ve included The Hillywood Show’s Doctor Who parody version of the song with this post. Enjoy.

  1. Gee. I try to give you an opportunity to collaborate with your wife again and this is the thanks I get. I mean, you didn’t even do the Latvian folk tale.

I guess that means I’ll just have to give you another children’s story title. 😉

    1. The Latvian one is coming. I just bumped this one up the queue as it’s official Doctor Who week.

I’d love to collaborate with the wife, but she’s hardly keeping up with illustrations for her own blog. And my ideas tend to be spur of the moment, while drawing and digitising an illustration needs advance planning.
