I’m not one to obsess over my stats. I can go for weeks without even looking at my stats page. But I was pretty pleased when my August stats showed an average view for the month of 37, the highest yet on if all else fails… I had no idea what was coming.
The past three days have seen my stats climb to 171, 198, and 197 so far today. At the current rate it will pass 200 views before midnight. (Correction, it passed the 200-mark while I was writing this and it now stands at 201 views.)
It would appear that a post I did a year ago on a certain Math puzzle doing the rounds on Facebook has floated to the first page of Google’s search results and a lot of people, especially from South-East Asia it seems, are clicking on it. The page views are a bit inflated due to that post being split up into three pages, but even compensating for that my visitor count is up significantly. Unfortunately my shares, comments and likes aren’t going up as well, but this remains the closest any post on if all else fails… has ever got to going viral.
In other news, the blog transformation is now complete, with the Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Tumblr pages each sporting their own matching design and two brand new about pages. Ever wondered how I got the blog’s title? Find the answer here. And have a look at Meet KokkieH. Most of what’s written there is completely true.
I also want to brag a little with my new profile picture:

The wife provided the illustrations (as always) and the rest was achieved with Inkscape, Gimp and a home made green screen. While the design aspect of graphic design is not at all my forte, when it comes to the technical side I’m pretty darn good, even if I say so myself. And if you’ve ever wondered what I look like in real life, now you know.
If you haven’t yet, take a look around at the brand new home of all your favourite hammer-related posts and tell me what you think in the comments.
Congrats!

Hmmm. Do I deserve congratulations? This feels more like an accident of the interwebs. But thanks! 😀

Congrats on the blog stats surge. Going even mildly viral is definitely a lottery – but sometimes, lotteries win! 🙂 It does seem to be the older posts that do it – I had a small surge a month or two back over a post from 2014. Hey – a great new profile pic. Eeeeeexceellent!

I actually went and reopened comments on that post, just in case, but no-one’s biting so far.
I have to do a double take each time I see my own picture in a thread. Still getting used to it myself.

It’s a good one – your wife is a talented artist! I guess spouses are important to blog pictures. My wife took my one (we were standing beside the Sydney Opera House, backgrounded by the bridge).

Love the new look – amazing!

Thanks. The wife’s illustrations really made it what it is. Most people have to pay big bucks for personalised design like this.

I keep telling her that, but like any true artist she’s plagued with constant self-doubt. I’ll show her your comment.
