Coming up…

I feel like I have to apologise for yesterday’s post as it seems to have upset some people.  On the one hand I want to point out that I did prominently mention the date and used the word “fool”, twice, besides the last sentence completely contradicting everything preceding it.  On the other hand I’m genuinely touched that the idea of me quitting this blog is distressing to some of you.  Made my day, it did.

At least I can assure you my being back is not an April Fool’s joke.  The few weeks’ break was good, but I’m quite ready to get back into the swing of things.

Speaking of April Fool’s, the best one I saw yesterday was the announcement that G.R.R. Martin will be publishing only one copy of The Winds of Winter in an attempt to truly make Westeros real for us.  Then there’s also the series finale of How I Met Your Mother that many wish was an April Fool’s joke (and in a way it was, but more about that on Friday).

In the coming weeks you can expect several reviews, some new song title challenges (once you wonderful people send me some new suggestions), and some thoughts about misleading exercise equipment.  Curious?  Good.  That’s right where I want you 🙂

On Quitting

After some more exhaustive consultation with the board of directors and all relevant stakeholders (consisting of me, myself, and a guy named Bob who keeps showing up to the meetings and is just so darn enthusiastic I don’t have the heart to tell him he’s actually at the wrong meeting) I have decided, for the sake of my continued insanity, to quit.  That’s right.  I’m throwing in the towel as far as concerns this whole writing lark.

On this, the first day of a new month, I am closing down if all else fails…use a hammer and it’s associated Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Google+ accounts.  By midnight tonight all trace of their existence will be erased from the interwebs.  My computer’s hard drive will be purged of all reviews, Song Title Challenges and works in progress.

It’s just not worth it.  These few weeks of absence have given me some perspective and I now know I’ll never be good enough.  It is foolish to think I can cut it as a writer, and on this day of all days I assure you, I am no fool.

Thus, I bid thee farewell.  Thanks for tolerating my drivel thus far.  You’ll be glad to know it will clog up your reader no more.  So long, adieu and goodbye.

Now bugger off.  Camp NaNoWriMo started ten hours ago and I have a thousand words to finish before I’m allowed to go to bed tonight!

Song Title Challenge #41: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – from the film Mary Poppins

It’s time for this week’s Song Title Challenge.

Write a short piece of fiction, around 300 words, using the song title as your story title but don’t listen to the song.  You can pick your own genre or use the one suggested to me.  Remember to link back to this post so I can find yours.

If you would like to suggest a song title for a future post, you can do so from the challenge page.  You can also leave a suggestion on the Facebook page.

This week’s song is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, written by Richard and Robert Sherman for the Disney film, Mary Poppins, where it was performed by Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke.  The genre is Horror/Thriller.  It was suggested by bumblepuppies.

Song Title Challenge #40: Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict – Pink Floyd

It’s time for this week’s Song Title Challenge.

This week’s song is Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict by Pink Floyd and the genre is Crime/Mystery.  It was suggested by bumblepuppies (whose comments regarding my wife being pregnant should NEVER be taken seriously 😉  )

I did this one a bit differently, seeing as I’m already familiar with the song:  A friend of mine wrote a piece on this song on the blog where this challenge got it’s humble beginnings.  Please go give hers a read as well when you’re done here.

On taking a break

After extensive consultation with the board of directors I’ve come to the decision, for the sake of my own insanity, to take a brief leave of absence from if all else fails…use a hammer.  I’ve noticed other bloggers doing it from time to time and it seems to me a sound practice, lest this blog starts feeling too much like work.

During this period I’ll also be cutting down on my blog reading, so if I don’t like and comment on your posts like usual, don’t take it personally.  It’s not you, it’s me.  (Yeah, that line just never sounds good, no matter the context.)

I’ll be using the time to try and get ahead on my studies and get some writing done – I have so many ideas clamouring for attention in my head and it’s time to get them committed to paper.

I don’t expect y’all to quit cold turkey (I’ve always wondered where that expression comes from) so the Song Title Challenge for the next two weeks will still take place – they’ve already been written and scheduled.  But aside from that, don’t expect any movement here for the next few weeks.

So, adieu and farewell for now.  If I’m not back by Easter I’ve probably decided to end my suffering by drinking water straight from the tap.  That can be fatal where I live.
