Song Title Challenge #61: Like A Stone by Audioslave

It’s time for this week’s Song Title Challenge.

Write a short piece of fiction, around 300 words, using the song title as your story title but don’t listen to the song. You can pick your own genre or use the one suggested to me. Remember to link back to this post so I can find yours.

This week’s song is Like A Stone by Audioslave. bumblepuppies has been on me that I must add “Children’s Book” to the genre list, but as I don’t have any ambition to ever write children’s books I’m not doing that. However, for today’s challenge he wrote “(AND YOUR GENRE IS CHILDREN’S BOOK)”, so I’m doing it this once (hear that, bumblepuppies? ONCE!). Hopefully it will be clear I shouldn’t write children’s books.

Happy Left Handers’ Day

I was planning to launch a new regular feature for if all else fails… today, but then I heard over the radio this morning (yes, I sometimes get information from other locations than the interwebs) that today is International Left Handers’ Day. I couldn’t let the opportunity pass.

Lefties have always been discriminated against. In ancient Hebrew culture the left side of the body was considered unclean and during the Middle Ages many lefties were executed for witchcraft simply because they preferred to use a different hand when wielding a sword, swinging an axe, or brushing their teeth. (Hang on. Did people brush their teeth in the Middle Ages?)

Song Title Challenge #60: Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye

This week’s song is Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye and the genre, as suggested by bumblepuppies, is Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Genre is Historic Fiction. I was wondering how to keep things PG13 with this particular title, but I think I managed quite nicely, though I’ll confess to drawing heavily for inspiration on the Dresden Files novel I’m currently reading (including the names of all my characters – no resemblance to the actual characters is intended 😉 ).

How to change a light bulb

First you have to remove the wheel. Make sure the emergency brake is engaged and position the jack under the spot indicated in the owner’s manual to avoid damaging the vehicle. Loosen the lug nuts slightly. Then lift up the vehicle until it is high enough from the ground to remove the wheel entirely.
