In case you’d missed it, some guy, more concerned with whether or not he could beat oncoming traffic than with if there were actually traffic in front of him, rear-ended the wife on her way to school.

About an hour ago I became an uncle for the third time. A new baby in the family is always special, but what makes this one extra- special is that it’s my baby sister’s first, it’s the first baby in the family I’m biologically related to, and most importantly, it’s my first nephew! Declan enters the world at a whopping 3.6kg, 51 cm. (If you’ve ever seen my sister you’d understand my use of “whopping”.)
I’d hoped that he would arrive on Tuesday so we could share our birthday, but the doctor had decided not to let nature take its course and yanked him out early. Oh, well. I’ll settle with getting a nephew three days before my birthday and a new season of Doctor Who four days after (I couldn’t let that pass without mention, now could I?)
I don’t believe in putting pictures of children online without their parents’ consent (actually, I’m uncomfortable with putting pictures of children online, period) so you’ll just have to believe me when I say he’s a beautiful little tyke. I can’t wait to go and officially meet him.
I’m not one to obsess over my stats. I can go for weeks without even looking at my stats page. But I was pretty pleased when my August stats showed an average view for the month of 37, the highest yet on if all else fails… I had no idea what was coming.
The past three days have seen my stats climb to 171, 198, and 197 so far today. At the current rate it will pass 200 views before midnight. (Correction, it passed the 200-mark while I was writing this and it now stands at 201 views.)
The first day of spring has always felt like a holiday to me. Not a stay-away-from-work holiday, but a special day that deserves to be celebrated. And this September first is worthy of celebration indeed. It has been warming up over here for the past two weeks, so much so that we’ve been sleeping with the window open, the better to enjoy the chirping and croaking of seemingly hundreds of frogs that had woken from hibernation early.
But my favourite part is when, apparently overnight, almost without one noticing, everything suddenly erupts in the most beautiful and varied shades of green. Spring is a time of new life. It’s time of new beginnings, at least for me, much more than New Year’s is.
According to The Daily Mail Online twenty vital skills are apparently dying out in our “world of technology and convenience”. Naturally I found myself checking how I measured up against the list. Do I have what it takes to survive in a world without tech? If Google goes offline and the world wide web unravels, will I be able to keep the threads of my life together?
