KokkieH Reviews The Angel’s Kiss: A Melody Malone Mystery by Justin Richards for the BBC’s Doctor Who

The Angel's Kiss by Justin Richards

On some days, New York is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

This was one of the other days.

Melody Malone, owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency, has an unexpected caller. It’s movie star Rock Railton, and he thinks someone is out to kill him. When he mentions the ‘kiss of the Angel’, she takes the case. Angels are Melody’s business.

At the press party for Railton’s latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to the film set of their next blockbuster. He’s obviously spotted her potential, and Melody is flattered when Kliener asks her to become a star. But the cost of fame, she’ll soon discover, is greater than anyone could possibly imagine.

Will Melody be able to escape Kliener’s dastardly plan – before the Angels take Manhattan? – Online book description

On The Doctor (a.k.a. me)

On The Doctor (a.k.a. me)

As I told you last week, I’m the Doctor.  Now it turns out that I’m the tenth Doctor, specifically.  How do I know?  I took this quiz and it told me.

I’m quite pleased with the result, as I really like David Tennant’s rendition of the Doctor (and he’s the wife’s favourite Doctor), and I really don’t know any of the Doctors 1 through 7, so I’m glad it’s not one of them (I saw too little of Eight to really get to know him – a common complaint among many fans).

Then I read this analysis of Ten.  First I was like, uhm, okay, but then I realised it’s actually  rather spot-on in certain regards.

Why don’t you also go do the quiz?  Then come back and let me know in the comments which Doctor you are.

P.S.  Damn!  I just realise I had bought the wrong sonic.  I wonder what Eleven’s profile says…

P.P.S.  Enjoy tomorrow’s Anniversary Special.  It’s going to be legen…wait for it…dary!

P.P.P.S.  Just to be fair, here’s Nine’s profile as well.  He was my first Doctor, after all.

There’s something I need to tell you

There’s something I need to tell you

Friends, readers, random spambots crawling this blog, there’s something I need to tell you.

First, I’m a bit disappointed in you all.  Here I say I have a very important announcement coming up and out of all 164 followers (of which, admittedly, more than a few don’t really exist) only Bumblepuppies cared to take a guess.  Well, I can assure you my wife isn’t pregnant, and neither am I (though that would have been something, wouldn’t it?), but thanks for playing along.

My announcement is bigger than this.  Actually, I’m not sure I should reveal this.  The implications could potentially reverberate across all of space and time.  Oh, well.  Let me just tell you and what will be, will be.  Here goes.

I’m the Doctor. Don’t believe me? Read on

Make it a good one

This week it is my turn to post on The Book Notes Project.  I have also posted it here for your convenience (and I’m too lazy for two posts in one day).

“We’re all stories, in the end.”

The Doctor says this to a sleeping young Amelia Pond in the Doctor Who episode, The Big Bang.  He is on the wrong side of a crack in time that’s rapidly closing and his story is about to end.  He’s sharing it with one last person in the hope that he would be remembered.

I don’t know whether Steven Moffat intended it this way when he wrote it, but this line gives us a way to look at our lives – as stories. Continue reading “Make it a good one”

A new Doctor already?

It’s official.  The BBC has possibly already found the new Doctor and is maybe going to announce it some time this weekend.  We cannot know for sure.  However, it’s apparently now down to three actors, though this can just be complete speculation.  No one knows for sure.  Everything is based on rumours.  The fans are going more crazy than in the run-up to the season 7 finale.

The three actors on the short list according to Starburst Magazine is Domhnall Gleeson, Daniel Kaluuya, and Dominic Cooper.  Let’s take a very quick look at them: Continue reading “A new Doctor already?”
